This will be my first post in this forum, and I am a newbie. I have used search function and do understand that this topic has been discussed previously. However I would still like to raise this. Your inputs will be greatly appreciated.
I have a situation where we have ended up with large number of Material Groups in MM system.. something like 4000!
Surprizing as it is, now we are thinking to bring it down to managable number of Material Groups.. say around 500.. even this is higher!!
There are no reports being run using these internal material groups. There is a separate DW/BI tool having a spend taxonomy where data is analyzed and reports are generated.
I would like to know :
1. What should be the step-by-step process if we decide to reduce the number of MatGrps,
2. What would be its potential impacts. Who in the business and IT need to work, and on what?
3. What are the potential risks?
